GP Jobs – General Practitioner Jobs Overview

GP Jobs are available across the UK at all levels.  Though there are many permanent roles being advertised there is a huge market for locum posts.  These are often preferred to gain General Practitioner experience.  Also these types of GP Jobs offer excellent pay rates.

Unlike a Medical or Hospital Doctor, a GP Jobs holder is typically a family doctor.  Usually working in a practice, clinic or surgery environment.  Though there are numerous other settings.  This can include Prison GP Jobs and Walk in Centres among others.

GP Jobs provide treatment to all illnesses throughout the population.  Prescribing treatments and medicines and operating in a position of trust.  Referring patients to specialist doctors when required.  Visiting people in their own homes when required.  The GP Jobs role is very demanding.  Much of a General Practitioners work is also preventative, promoting health education and sharing knowledge.

GP Jobs – General Practitioner Jobs Training

To obtain GP Jobs in the UK you will need to be registered with the GMC.  You will also need a current licence to practice.

Following graduation from medical school it takes around five years to train as a General Practitioner.  Before entering GP Jobs you undertake two years as a Foundation Doctor.  Otherwise known as F1 Jobs/FY1 Jobs and F2 Jobs/FY2 Jobs.  This involves working in various areas of general surgery and medicine.  These were formerly known as House Officer Jobs.

You will then need at least three years working in StR Jobs or Speciality Registrar Jobs.  This is where you work across areas of general practice and specialised areas of hospital care.  These were formerly known as SHO Jobs or Senior House Officer Jobs.

Once qualified for GP Jobs or General Practitioner Jobs you then have the opportunity to obtain Practice Manager Jobs with experience.  However GP Jobs holders would not typically become Consultants unlike Hospital Doctors.
